Arkana is looking for creative nonfiction of 500 words or fewer for their Micro issue. From nanotechnology, the singularity at the center of a black hole, microbiology, and microbursts to microbreweries, they want work that celebrates its smallness, amplifies the tiniest voices with the most to say, and challenges society’s perceptions of the marginal, modest, and miniscule. Deep Wild Journal: Writing from the Backcountry, is looking for nonfiction submissions for its inaugural issue, to be published this summer. They are aiming to “provide a forum for the best writing we can find that conjures the experiences, observations, and insights of backcountry journeys.” They will publish online and twice-yearly in pocket-sized editions.
